More on the 2010 BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo

We showed you . few pictures of the 2010 BMW 5 Series GT earlier,. and now we have the full release on BMW '. oddly-shaped people mover. Most of the details were expected, but there are . few surprises..
Most notable is the introduction of an all-new eight-speed automatic transmission. With . direct drive sixth gear and two overdrive gears, it should give the 550. GT decent mileage even with its 4.4-liter, twin turbo .8..
Another first, at least on …… model, is . regenerative braking system. It allows the alternator to cycle on and off which reduces load on the engine and theoretically saves gas. The 5 Series GT is still . huge vehicle though, so don'. expect impressive mileage numbers..
Although it'. labeled as ..5 Series, the GT borrows heavily from the 7 Series when it comes to its suspension setup. The GT adopts essentially the same three-link setup up front and the 7'. multilink configuration in back. BMW '. integral Active Steering is also featured on the GT so the rear wheels are capable of turning up to 3 degrees to improve steering response./spy shots
BMW says it expects to have the 5 Series Gran Turismo in U.S. dealers by the end of this year with a price between $65,000 and $70,000.
