Hyundai Readies Equus for U.S. Sales

There have been rumors about the Hyundai Equus flagship circulating for months now, but has now confirmed its future in the …. Hyundai CEO John Krafcik told us that it'… done deal and to expect the luxury sedan to be in showrooms next year.

“It hinged on the Genesis,” Krafcik told us..”If the Genesis did well we could bring the Equus. We're there with the interior, but they are fine tuning the ride and handling. Right now our engineering team is on . cross-country drive with an Equus, an .-Class,…7 Series and . Lexus LS. Make no mistake, our targets are those three cars and our ride and handling will be more in the direction of the LS 460..”

Launching . high-end luxury sedan in the middle of . recession might not seem like the best idea, but Hyundai is going in with modest expectations. Krafcik said,.”Our goal with the Equus won'. be volume. It'. image. It's to show the world we can make the finest sedans in the world.”

Although Krafcik gave us no hard pricing numbers, expect the Equus to arrive in 2010 with a sticker between $48K and $58K.
