1948-1952 Ford F-1 Pickup Crossmember Pack Designation Instructions

1. Start by supporting a truck on 4 jack stands. The truck should be sitting upon about a same point of view as it does upon a ground, or somewhat lower in front.
2. Remove all the aged front suspension components, including a root springs and a engine mounting rails. Also remove a open perches from a support rails. Leave a front crossmember in place.
3. Boxing the rails is next. The rails should be squared up as distant as the flanges have been concerned as well as made straight and true. The fighting plates have been then laid up against the rails as well as clamped in place. Coupling reduced sections at the time in swapping locations to minimize warpage. Grub smooth when finished. See Figure 1.
4. Measure back 17 1/8” from a center of a front shackle focus as well as make the mark. Now clerk those outlines completely around the frame rails. Those scribed lines are a axle centerline for the new crossmember. See Figure 2.
5. If you purchased the complete I.F.S. Package from HEIDTS, it was supplied with Full Reduce A-Arms. Proceed by installing a Spacers onto a crossmember. A holes where the reduce control arms attach to a Crossmember must be enlarged to 5/8”. Mount the Crossmember Spacers as well as the Rear Spacers which were supplied with the Lower Control Arms onto a Crossmember as shown in Figure 3 using the supplied Middle Bushing Bolts, Nuts as well as a proxy spacer underneath the Nuts. DO NOT use the A- Arms for this operation as a fusingormelting heat will melt the rubber bushings. Tie the Bolts and Nuts parsimonious. Coupling the Rear Spacers to the Crossmember all around. Coupling a Crossmember Spacers as distant as probable inside a crossmember upon both ends. Position the Gussets horizontally, not vertically, against the Back Spacers and the behind of a Crossmember. Coupling Gussets to Spacers and Crossmember. When it cools, remove the bolt.
6. Now it is time to start wise and installing the new crossmember. Slip it up into the support, core it on a scribed axle center line. See Figure 4. If it does not fit, grind a sides of a crossmember until you can get the crossmember up in place, as shown. Make certain a crossmember is entirely seated on the underside of the actual support lower aspect. Figure 4 shows this obviously. Hook weld in place, check place, afterwards weld in place, welding all around both ends, top, sides, as well as bottom.
7. Subsequent have been a spring towers. They sit upon top of the support rails, and are located 1 ?” forward of the crossmember, as shown in Figure 5. Clamp in place, double check your measure, then coupling all around, including a gusset flanges upon the sides of the rails. For combined strength, you can also weld the inside of the gusset flanges.
8. If you are using factory reduce control arms and strut rods you will continue here. Use a reduce control arm as well as strut rod for locating a back strut rod supports as well as gussets. Using a 2 x 4 and the C-clamp, install a control arm as shown in Figure 6.
9. Implement the strut rod onto a control arm. Now, assemble onto the strut rod a large rubber bushings, including a cupped washers, as well as the strut mountain plate. Be sure to entirely tighten a nut on a strut rod to its’ fully seated position. See Figure 7. There are two rubber bushing sets available; the standard replacement and the improved set. We suggest the improved set, as it provides more stability to the front cessation. A Pinto and Mustang strut rods have been different lengths. You recommend a use of Pinto strut rods, as they have been bent less than the Mustang strut rods. You will find which with possibly strut rod the strut rod plate does not line up with a bottom of the frame rail. A strut rod must be exhilarated in a elbow area and bent external. The rod is bent external until a strut ascent image lines up to the support rail. You will find that since a Pinto strut rod is initially bent less and requires much less tortuous. The strut rod will act as an alignment tie while you hook coupling a mountain plate in place, afterwards tack weld the gusset in place. Remove the strut rod, bushings, as well as arm, as well as finish welding to a frame and any other.
