2001 Ford Escape Air Open Designation Instructions
I. Installing the Air Cylinder
1. Jack up back of vehicle or lift on raise. Await frame with reserve stands. Lower axle or lift physique of car until cessation is fully lengthened.
2. Examine a stock jounce bumper out of the hop fender bracket and drop (Figure 1).
3. Mislay the upper jounce bumper retainer bracket by removing the bolt holding it in place (Figure 1). These parts will not be reused.
4. Remove a plastic top from the spiny branch on the end of the air cylinder and exhaust all a air from the cylinder by rolling it up towards the barbed branch. Replace a cap so which the cylinder binds the flat figure. Form the cylinder into a prohibited dog bun shape. If required, use string, tape, or wire to keep this figure.
5. Insert a formed cylinder into a lower coil open chair opening with the barbed stem to the bottom (Figure 2).
6. Pull the cylinder into the curl spring by hand or delicately with a brief object such as a spoon type tire iron.
7. When a air cylinder is completely insideof a coil, mislay a top and allow it to pretence its strange shape.
II. Formulating the Spring Chair Hole
It will be necessary to cavalcade the 3/4″ hole for hose entrance to a branch upon a bottom spring seat.
1. Raise asingle side during a time and mark where a stem touches the lower spring seat. The hole will need to be drilled on the other side of the control arm. Note a area previously marked as well as duplicate on a other side of the control arm.
2. With a suspension hanging, symbol, center punch, and drill the 1/8″ hole through the bottom of a open seat. COUNSEL: Do not drill a hole through the bottom of the cylinder.
3. Note the place drilled and regulate with the brand-new hole, if necessary. Regulating the previous hole drilled, enlarge the hole to the 3/4″ hole to obtain correct valve stem clearance.
4. Lift a cessation up all a approach so that the cylinder contacts a bottom of a open seat. The branch cannot hold the sides of a reduce control arm. If necessary, grub for clearway.
5. Remove all burrs upon the cylinder side of the control arm.
III. Installing the Air Line
Air tee line installation is recommended unless weight in car varies from asingle side to a other and unsymmetrical pressures have been indispensable to level the bucket. Twin air lines have been used in this box.
1.Tee Air Line routing:
IMPORTANT: To prevent air line from melting, keep it at slightest 8″ from a empty complement.
the. Locate preferred tee location on a support rail or cross member.
b. Determine and cut adequate length of air line to reach from tee to left and right side on air cylinders. CAUTION: Leave enough air line tardy to prevent any aria upon wise during spindle motions.
c. Slip air line clamp onto the air line.
d. Push a air line over one side of the tee until all the barbs are lonesome. Repeat procedure for other leg of tee (Figure 3).
e. With pliers slip the air line clamp forward until it entirely covers the barbed section. Repeat for alternative leg of tee (Figure 3).
f. Route along cross member and lower control to air cylinder.
g. Insert air line through reduce control arm.
h. Push the air line onto the branch of a air open, covering all a barbs (Figure 4).
we. With pliers slip the air line clamp upward until it fully covers the spiny territory.
j. Pull a remaining air line over the last wise upon tee and route along frame to desired acceleration valve location (Figure 5). Attach with cosmetic straps or wire.
k. Name a place for inflation valve in a gas cap well, a truck, rear bumper, fender flange or at the back of a permit plate, insuring that the valve will be protected as well as accessible with an air hose.
l. Drill a 5/16″ hole for inflation valve and mountain as in painting (Figure 6). Rubber washer is for outside continue seal.
m. Slide air line clamp over a air line. Push air line onto fitting covering all barbs, with pliers slip the air line clamp brazen until it fully covers the barbed section (Figure 7).
n. Raise spindle or lower body until air cylinders easily touch top spring seat and lower spacers.
o. COUNSEL: Do not increase air cylinders before celebrationofthemass Inflating the Air Springs territory.
